Having turned professional in 1920, the club enjoyed success throughout the 20th century, most notably when they won the FA Cup in 1947 under iconic manager Jimmy Seed. After seven years away from The Valley – the club’s home since 1919 – due to financial problems, the Addicks made their triumphant return in 1992 to begin the most successful period in the club’s history.
Under manager Alan Curbishley, Charlton established themselves as Premier League regulars, finishing as high as seventh in 2003/04. Over this time, Charlton established themselves as one of the best clubs in the country for developing young players, with the likes of Scott Parker, Joe Gomez, Ezri Konsa and Ademola Lookman all coming through the club’s youth ranks.
The 21st century has also seen success for Charlton’s women’s side, who won the FA Cup in 2005. Having been disbanded in 2007, the team reformed the same year and built themselves back up to achieve their highest league finish since then in 2023/24, narrowly missing out on promotion to the Women’s Super League.
